Dengue disease, basic reproduction number and control

چکیده
Dengue is one of the major international public health concerns. Although progress is underway, developing a vaccine against the disease is challenging. Thus, the main approach to fight the disease is vector control. A model for the transmission of Dengue disease is presented. It consists of eight mutually exclusive compartments representing the human and vector dynamics. It also includes a control parameter (insecticide) in order to fight the mosquito. The model presents three possible equilibria: two diseasefree equilibria (DFE) and another endemic equilibrium. It has been proved that a DFE is locally asymptotically stable, whenever a certain epidemiological threshold, known as the basic reproduction number, is less than one. We show that if we apply a minimum level of insecticide, it is possible to maintain the basic reproduction number below unity. A case study, using data of the outbreak that occurred in 2009 in Cape Verde, is presented.

Estimating the basic reproduction number for single-strain dengue fever epidemics
BACKGROUND Dengue, an infectious tropical disease, has recently emerged as one of the most important mosquito-borne viral diseases in the world. We perform a retrospective analysis of the 2011 dengue fever epidemic in Pakistan in order to assess the transmissibility of the disease. We obtain estimates of the basic reproduction number R 0 from epidemic data using different methodologies applied ...
متن کاملSeasonality effects on Dengue: basic reproduction number, sensitivity analysis and optimal control
Dengue is a vector-borne disease transmitted from an infected human to an Aedes mosquito, during a blood meal. Dengue is still a major public health problem. A model for the disease transmission is presented, composed by human and mosquitoes compartments. The aim is to simulate the effects of seasonality, on the vectorial capacity and, consequently, on the disease development. Using entomologic...
متن کاملMathematical Model for Transmission Dynamics of Hepatitus C Virus with Optimal Control Strategies
An epidemic model with optimal control strategies was investigated for Hepatitus C Viral disease that can be transmitted through infected individuals. In this study, we used a deterministic compartmental model for assessing the effect of different optimal control strategies for controlling the spread of Hepatitus C disease in the community. Stability theory of differential equations is us...
متن کاملEstimation of Basic Reproduction Number R0 for SEIR Dengue Fever Model The Case of Dengue in Pakistan
In this paper, we mainly focus on the transmission of dengue fever with the aim of analyzing and comparing logistic and exponential curve that occurred in Lahore (Pakistan), in the year 2010–-2011. We obtain the force of infection, ˄, from the real data of Lahore, and then computed the basic reproduction number, R0. Based on the analysis of the behaviour of R0, we show that the disease is epide...
متن کاملThe basic reproduction number obtained from Jacobian and next generation matrices - A case study of dengue transmission modelling
The basic reproduction number is a key parameter in mathematical modelling of transmissible diseases. From the stability analysis of the disease free equilibrium, by applying Routh-Hurwitz criteria, a threshold is obtained, which is called the basic reproduction number. However, the application of spectral radius theory on the next generation matrix provides a different expression for the basic...
